The new crop feature is a hands-down favorite. Keep an eye on your auto-export settings when doing this, as Lightroom is more likely to preserve your image, compared to the new crop features in Photoshop. If you wish to preserve 100% of your original image, use the Duplicate Layer option and set it to screen, rather than full. Next, use the Crop feature as you normally would, replicating the result. You can then double-click on this layer to insert it as a custom “darkroom” type effect into your original image. For best results, set the layer to Transparent, and add the effect using a Gradient Map (Directions). The colors in the gradient will adapt to the actual purples in the Swing Loops’ image, and also the results can be tweaked from there. The screen option will make your custom image always show up (as is the case when cropping an image), but the file format will be changed to JPEG. I personally use the PNG format these days for the best compatibility.
Other highlights and new items in Photoshop includes the Smudge tool, Rectangular Selection tool, Liquify tools, Adjustment Layers, the Facetunes feature, Clone Stitch, Flowshot, Smart Objects, Layer Sets and Retouch. For a beginner, the right place to start is to use the default screen RGB (Red/Green/Blue) or CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Black) color model. If you want to work the HSL/HSB values, use your program’s own colors palette, which you can easily access with the Colors panel. Once you’re feel confident in using colors as tools, you can freely mix and match colors using the Color Picker to find the individual hues (as seen on my tutorial) or you can use the eyedropper tool to sample colors on-screen.
